I agree with all my heart to this idea.
Sadly, many players out there are indeed strongly PvP focused and find such ideas to be pointless and own houses are almost 100% RPG add-on. Still I do hope all players will see the beauty of this idea regardless of their core player visions.

I'm almost entirely a pvper yet I stand behind an idea of this sort.

PvPer's like lots of shiny armors too, ya'know!

nice idea...

/signed

make the houses visitable(?) for guildies (through guildhall) and friends...
don't care about all the pet stuff but its a nice idea. Visiting should be easy - to make it worth building a great place to show off...

perfectly acceptable as a PvE extension pack or something but then there will have to be some pretty cool features... (to make it worth the money). Major storage advantages by buying house will do for me
  • extra storage (not accesable through agents)
  • armor closets
  • key racks?
  • importable paintings and decorations?
(like maybe create paintings from the screens you took ingame?)
  • they should/could have implemented the material storage as a seperate barn next to the house... (and thus make it more exclusive)
  • all players character present in- around house in some way

work together with EA and create a GuildWars/SIMS co-production (just kidding, just kidding... please don't make it anything sims-like)

lol....

and just thought about it some more... what I think would be nice is to allow players buying houses only via guilds..

make a portal at the guildhall where players can enter the guild-village or attach a special area to the guildhall (as an investment for the guildhall?). All houses in similar styles as the guildhall off-course... guildies can walk through town and visit houses... friends can only beam to/visit your house

Players would need to join a guild to be able to buy a house, this way stimulating the whole "it's a game about guilds" idea...

offcourse when someone gets kicked from guild all should be kept and accessable again when joining other guild (who has expanded their guildhall with such an area) making the whole guild part more important again...

But not because most of the comments. Well, look out of the monitor. Can You buy Yourself a Ele/Mes maid for the house? Didn't think so.

I sign it because today, most of the people try to run from the reality, pledging into the internet/virtual reality. In most cases, they cannot change their life rapidly. In the VR - they can. Of course, there are different rules and conditions. But apart from that - still it is possible. Who, in real life, could become Ele Nuker or Necro Ranger?

And because of that fact, people would very like to have their own place. So that everytime they log out - they wouldn't be out of the game, but simply - sleeping in the house or whatever similar to it. Also, with sort of simplified messaging system. Ex. I got Bruce Willis on the friend list. When he's not logged in - cannot send him a message. So good idea would be to make a queue for ex. 20 messages, which would wait for a player to log in. Left "in a house".

If You do not believe in it - just think a while - why the heck do games alike SIMS gather milions of players?

Reading through this post gave me another idea to add. If one player cannot afford a house on his own, let 2 or more pool their resources together to get a multi room house. This way some players will not feel left out due to lack of gold. Another thing' on server bandwidth. If it is implemented so that the houses are on a seperate server from the rest, with each account possibly having a small tag code attached to it to denote whether it has a house or not will keep from having bandwidth issues. Giving the Homes a seperate server will free up the servers in the guild halls and not puit an undue strain on the rest of the servers. Have it set up so that in the guild hall you warp to a community for each Guild with several types of homes. The unoccupied ones should have a sign saying so.

I'm a girl and I think houses are silly. A few extra slots are all we really need.

Players who want lots of space could buy a new account with 4 bank characters. It's like having a house with four rooms. That way, Anet would make more money, which it deserves.

Maybe a mail system could be more doable and useful, even though it's really not necessary either. If Anet incorporated one, NPCs could sell expensive fancy boxes for us to stick in our guild halls. And give us the option of free generic boxes in outposts. We could mail items to bank characters or low char friends we don't want to hunt down but we know could make use of our junk.

Dont like things what other mmo have. If you wanna add some special storage place just do "private" chest/closet in Guildhall.

Yeah but the problem with that is you would than have to buy $150 in new GW games if you wanted to have access to the whole GW universe, and you'd do nothing to solve the horrendous storage problem. You'd make it worse by having 4 extra chars to fill up with crap.

The reason people want houses is so they can store their stuff... (Like the bajillions of weapons and upgrades I carry around, ready to slap together an amazing ax or sword as soon as a 15^50 inscription drops, my 3 different melee weaps, my 4 different shields, and all my Gwen stuff, 3 different scar pattern headgear, a weapon and offhand for each school of Necromancy, 3 pairs of daggers, a whole nother suit of armor for my 55 ritualist and the 3 sets of offhands and weapons, 3 different bows, numerous runes, golds, purples, and unsold greens, many dyes, and several inscriptions, various holiday items and assorted alcohols.)
And to switch chars w/o logging out. I dont mind logging out but I do mind not having any room on my chars to do anything.

I want storage. If it means a house, so much the better.

/signed for any sort of storage...tbh, I would be fine if they just made the existing storage a 5x30 space...150 slots should be enough for anyone.

for the idea of a house

however, the "log out to log in to a new character" gave me an idea.

When you log in, instead of seeing your character standing like a statue waiting to be selected, you are taken to your characters "house".
All you characters would be shown like the original selection screen, but instead they may do simple npc stuff such as appear to talk to your other characters, laugh, sit, play rock paper scissors, dance, or just aimelssly wander.
IF tied to a guild/guild hall, you would see the character wandering and interacting with other random players characters. Kinda make you guild feel alive if others are not online.

Now, back to the log in and out of changing characters, yo go back to your house/guild hall walk up to your character and select to change to them.

Having a house like the SIMS games..um..not sure if I want to go that far in regards to decorations and extras to buy....
What say you?

The whole point of switching characters is to unload active from memory and load another one. You people are talking about doing it on the fly and that's alot of work, in and of itself.

I would like a house with extra storage as long as it's not xunlai, why are we defending whole nations of people for if we get zero out of it aside from the satisfaction of doing it? There's certainly no ultimate treasure, aside from new skins of weapons.

The mini pet idea is a bit silly.

It wouldn't lag servers, because you'd in effect be offline. You wouldn't have to communicate location or anything to server and back, nothing to kill, nothing to fight/glitch/exploit. Just inventory changes and Whisper/guild chat
As far as server storage, it wouldn't be any different than what's in Guild HAlls right now, except for private storage.

I think it should be per character though. Greater gold sink. Allow you to see each varying type of Residence.
Each character can buy up to 3 trunks, genereic hidden storage.
Include a # of hat racks and weapon racks like we see around the maps, plus no one wants to store their helmet with the rest of their smelly sweaty armor.
Mat/Dye storage Closet.

If it's set to invite friends, everything in house is coded to only me, all visitors can do is hover over items like in the field. Reserved for RandomPlayerX. and with no treasure sparklies, that'd be annoying.

Alot of people would love a room for mounting their treasures, a Charr Head sticking out of the wall on a Plaque..heh

I don't really care how they implement it (even charging for it) but I'm for any increase on general storage. I can't play the game with 10 chars and their Heroes with the current inadequate storage.

It is as much a social gathering as a game and GW should keep that in mind if they want people to keep playing regularly I think.

I already finished NF with 8 characters out of the 10 I play and the other 2 are progressing nicely. I will be done with that soon and then it's another wait for the next one.

Surely there can be some things like in game games at the guild halls and other things like these that can keep you busy and motivated in between the new story lines...
I dont think houses would be aded as a free game update. but if anet decides to release it as an offer in the online store i could definetly see it working. u buy 1 house that u can update to a much farther extent than gh but more expensive. u could see ur sets of armors on wall and have like a cabinent to display ur best items and a scroll that lists ur chars names and best titles. u could also upload pics of ur chars into frames and let ppl visit ur home. hell ill pay $20 for this crap if it come wit bigger storage too. house doesnt hafta be huge tot ake up lots of gw memory. it could be the size of like grentech courthouse in the pvp islands. the house would also be for each of ur chars and if u bought house, u can change or upgrade it by using x sigils (cuz all mine are just wasted on trader)

Agreed. Little huts in the guild hall would not be convenient, it would be silly. It is a meeting place and for battles. Not a neighborhood.
